The New Partridge Dictionary of Slang
and Unconventional English is a two-volume, 2100 page
work, providing unprecedented coverage of slang in the English
speaking communities throughout the world.
What's new about it?
- New EDITORS, one American, based in the US, one British,
based in the UK
- New two-volume format, containing approximately 65,000
entries
- New emphasis on post-World War II slang and unconventional
English
- New focus: equal number of entries allocated to the US
and to Great Britain (30% each) with the remainder allocated
to other English-speaking countries
Our aim has been to create a unique and
outstanding resource of slang for the 21st century, while
always retaining and demonstrating that which was particular
to Partridge – scholarliness, humour and a ‘sheer delight
in the byways of language’ (Randolph Quirk)
